Fluid Tech's In-Drum Solidification System and stabilization media was used to solidify 84 source drums that resulted in 105 treated drums. Treatment using Fluid Tech's approach resulted in a 57% cost savings to the customer. The treated waste was sent to Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) for final disposition.

Solidification of Incidental Liquids from Repacking Operations at AMWTP
Fluid Tech's AQUASET II-G™ is utilized at AMWTP to absorb incidental liquids discovered during repackaging of 55- and 85-gallon drums of waste. The wastes are generated throughout the Department of Energy (DOE) complex and, upon successful repackaging and solidification, are destined for disposition at the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) in Carlsbad, New Mexico.
Stabilize Mixed Waste Acids and Solid Wastes from a Central Processing Facility
Fluid Tech products were applied by personnel using equipment and procedures to solidify and package more than 9,500 gallons of radioactive liquid and solid waste generated at the Quadrex Recycle Center. Approximately 237 drums of waste, including slurries of acids and bases with salt crystals, were solidified. The acids were neutralized to a pH of 8.5 before solidification. Acids solidified and neutralized included nitric, sulfuric, hydrochloric and phosphoric.
Stabilize Mixed Liquid and Solid Wastes with RCRA Heavy Metals, Other Characteristic Wastes, and Solvents
Fluid Tech products were applied to stabilize approximately 6,500 gallons (24,611 kg) of mixed waste liquids and solids generated by hospitals, universities, and laboratories. This waste stream contained RCRA hazards Arsenic, Mercury, Lead, Chloroform and Pyridine (D004, D008, D009, D022, and D038 respectively) in addition to radioisotopes. Stabilization required reducing the leaching of heavy metals and characteristic wastes from a few hundred ppm concentration to below the EPA allowable leaching concentration. These wastes were stabilized in 55-gallon drums using the AQUASET II-H™ and PETROSET II™ stabilization agents to meet the Barnwell waste acceptance criteria. The 150 drums of packaged waste were then shipped to the Barnwell Disposal Site in South Carolina.
Central Neutralization Facility (CNF) Sludge Treatability
Fluid Tech products were applied to stabilize mixed wastes containing RCRA waste codes F001, F002, F003, F004, F005, F006, and 21 "U" codes. These wastes were generated during SEG's Lockheed Martin Energy System's Central Neutralization Facility project. Fluid Tech products stabilized two 55-gallon drums, containing a total of 431 kg of wastes, and the wastes were disposed of at the Envirocare of Utah disposal site.

Stabilize Mixed Waste Acids and Bases Generated by Chemical Decontamination
Fluid Tech products were applied to stabilize 4,110 gallons of mixed waste acids and bases at their recycle center in Oak Ridge, TN. These wastes were generated during chemical decontamination at the American Recycle facility. In addition to containing radionuclides, the wastes contained RCRA wastes D002, D007, D008. Fluid Tech products stabilized 111 55-gallon drums of wastes, containing a total of 18,492 kg of waste, in accordance with the Clive Waste Acceptance Criteria.

Fluid Tech products were applied to stabilize 9,159 kg of oils and water with depleted uranium, lime, cadmium, lead and incidental tetrachloroethylene (D006, D008, D039) for disposal. After Fluid Tech products were applied to stabilize the waste, the 59 55-gallon drums were packaged and shipped for disposal.

Solidify and Stabilize RCRA Heavy Metals and NORM (Naturally Occurring Radioactive Material)
Fluid Tech products were applied to solidify and stabilize liquids, sludges, soils and scabbling dust from decontamination and decommissioning of an 8-story building. The wastes generated included Naturally Occurring Radioactive Material (NORM), Triclor, Xylene and RCRA Metals D005, D006, D007, D008, F001, F002, F003, F004. Approximately 4,000 gallons (47,001 kg) of waste liquids and solids were solidified and stabilized using the AQUASET®, PETROSET® stabilization agents. The stabilization involved reducing the leaching of heavy metals from a few thousand ppm concentration to below the EPA allowable leaching concentration. The 92 drums of packaged waste were prepared for shipment to EnergySolutions' Clive Disposal Facility.

Mixed Waste Stabilization at the Department of Energy, Pantex Facility
Fluid Tech products were applied by personnel using equipment and procedures to stabilize approximately 1,200 gallons/month of potentially radioactive and RCRA hazardous materials. The waste included trace high explosives, alpha, solvents, acetone; D003, F001, F002, F003, and F004. Fluid Tech products stabilized these mixed wastes using AQUASET® and PETROSET® stabilization agents. More than 40 gallons of waste were placed in each 55-gallon drum. A total of 85 drums (2,873 kg) were stabilized and shipped to the Nevada Test Site for disposal.
